When did you start playing Sims?
I don’t remember the exact year, but early 2000′s with Sims 1. A friend of mine had it and I quickly got hooked on it after observing. I bought it for myself and the rest is history. I was a late adapter to TS2 because I didn’t have a computer that could handle it til 2007. I remember the day I first installed and dabbled in TS2, I spent a staggering 15 hours on it. :S I’ve dabbled in TS3 but don’t like it, and only the demo in TS4 because the thought of starting a whole new game from scratch/leaving TS2 is pretty unthinkable.
Have you been playing consistently or do you have breaks inbetween?
Pretty consistent, but I have had breaks – some forced (tech malfunctions), and some of my own choice. I think the longest break’s been around 6 months. The last 5ish years have been quite consistent though.
Do your family & friends know that you play The Sims?
Not really, no. Or at least, not of the proportion that it’s become as a hobby. Nobody from my ‘real life’ follows my simblr. My offline and simming lives are entirely separate, and that’s just the way I like it.
Do you spend more time in build or live mode? Why?
Overall, live mode. But when I get on a build kick, it really sticks around for a while.
Do you play with supernatural creatures (like Vampires, Werewolves etc.)?
Why not?
Not overly, no. Like, in my whole TS2 playing career, I’ve never had a sim become a vampire, or a zombie, or a werewolf. I find plantsims hideously boring, too. I’ve never even had a servo.
I guess the reason is I gravitate to conventional drama about subjectively attractive people.
Fuck, I’m basic.
Do you have one specific family you play with all the time (like a legacy of some sort) or do you rotate between a couple of households?
No, I’ve never been a single-family type. I like weaving a web of characters and storylines. My uberhood is huge in rotational scale, and Mayberry is much more manageable at under 10 households 🙂
Do you like to create your own neighborhoods or do you play with the existing families? Tell us about your progress 🙂
Both! I’ll always have a soft spot for the premades, but having recently created my own hood from scratch, it’s really satisfying. So, my first ever hood was Pleasantview with a mix of the premades and some custom sims. It lasted six years and I rested it when I took a long break. Then, I embarked on a clean uberhood, and now I’m focused on Mayberry, my custom hood. Generation two is coming along very nicely. I’ve also got ideas for more new hoods on the distant horizon, most notably a prequel hood starring Jane Stacks and Meadow Thayer as child cousins and following their lives with their non-canon parents from there.
Do you create custom content? If so, what keeps you motivated?
(If not, would you like to? What stops you from learning it? For players that don’t use mods, why do you stay away from CC?)
I do, but fairly “basic” stuff – clothes recolours, hair rextures and edits, makeup recolours, sims, lots, etc. Still working on my Not Being a Converter/Mesher = Not Being a Legit Creator complex :
If there was one piece of CC or (if you play without mods) one piece you wish the developers implemented, what would it be?
Definitely TS4′s body sliders, plus a more complete turn on/turn off system. Like, why aren’t eye colour and starsigns legit variables?
What other expansion and/or accessoires pack do you wish the developers would have come out with?
I really wish my sims could do menial stuff like their laundry Honestly, I don’t feel like anything’s glaringly missing. We have college, nightlife, work, pets, seasons, travel, hobbies, magic, fashion and furnishing.
